As I recall, on the walk from the freshman orientation picnic back to Mary Lyons we were discussing the classmates we had met at the picnic. One person described Doreen’s desire to specialize in foreign language education because she saw language skills as an overlooked area that would help broaden horizons and increase employable skills for kids in poor neighborhoods. It struck me as a keen insight that I would not have considered had she not been in our class. I looked forward to meeting her.
Unfortunately we never met. I am still grateful for her insight.
