Working with Climate Change Panel: A Preview
Motivated by America’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Class of 1968 voted to contribute to two programs at the College to enhance sustainability. This panel will summarize the College’s programs, describe the ways the Class Gift will contribute to those efforts, and highlight the related work of some classmates. The panelists and their topics are:
Aurora Winslade, Director of Sustainability, will describe the College’s efforts and how the Class Gift will contribute to those programs;
Nathaniel Graf ’16, a Fellow in the Sustainability Program, will discuss his Carbon Pricing Project at Swarthmore;
Sue Almy ’68, a New Hampshire legislator for 22 years, will discuss how New England works with climate change; and
Mike Halpern ’68 will talk about efforts to surmount governmental inaction on issues such as beach erosion and other effects of climate change in their communities.
Nancy Bennett ’68 and Peter Fraser ’68 will then lead off a discussion with the audience regarding individual efforts to meet this challenge. Class members are invited to join in by relating their sustainability stories and perspectives.
Bob Bartkus ’68 will attempt to moderate.
